Tourists Guide to Amsterdam - Bars and Clubs

THE AMSTERDAM BARS AND CLUBS SCENE

There are very few European cities that can match the Amsterdam bars and clubs scene and certainly none that can beat it. Over twelve hundred Amsterdam bars and clubs crowd the city and it would take an Amsterdam Party year to crawl it, never mind a Stag weekend. Only one group of people enjoy the Amsterdam bars and clubs scene quite as much as the tourists and that's the locals, especially at the weekends. The local scene is usually friendly, but some of the traditional local bars or "browncafes" as they are known, might not be so keen on a score or so of lively Amsterdam stag weekenders taking over, so a little decorum is in order here. These local bars are however, well worth a visit throughout the city and especially in the Jordaan area if just to to sample the traditional Dutch drinking culture, and some of the interesting local beers and reasonably priced pub snacks.

AMSTERDAM PARTY TIME AND THE FAMOUS SQUARES

Traditional bars can of course be found throughout the city centre, but in the evenings and particularly at the weekends, the famous Amsterdam Party scene takes over. The birthplace of Grolsch, Heineken and Amstel is never as alive as it is in the central square areas of Rembrandtsplein and Leidseplein, with the Amsterdam bars and clubs scene stretching out to the Dam square area and beyond into the Red light district. The wild Amsterdam Stag and Hen Party enjoys its natural environment in this city, but there is room aplenty for the romantic couple or people watching afficianados. The famous Amsterdam Gay scene thrives in the tolerant and perse city centre and enjoys some of the best and most colourful city pubs.
